WE SUPPORT THE YES VOTE. HERE’S WHY:

The leaders that came together at the 2017 Constitutional Convention produced the Uluru Statement of the Heart as an invitation to the Australian people. The statement calls for three items: Voice, Treaty and Truth. At Land on Heart, we respect and accept this invitation in full, and we say Yes to the Voice to Parliament.

The Voice to Parliament and the Constitutional Amendment to recognise our first Australians proposal is an important step forward for our democracy. By expanding the areas in which Parliament can legislate, we can ensure that our laws keep up with the needs of our society. This will enable us to respond more effectively to emerging issues and challenges, such as climate change, cybersecurity, and social inequality.

The proposal includes safeguards to prevent the centralization of power and protect the role of the states. It also includes measures to ensure that Parliament can work collaboratively and respectfully to address issues. These safeguards and measures will promote greater accountability and transparency in our democratic system.

The Voice to Parliament and the Constitutional Amendment to recognise our first Australians proposal has support from both major political parties, as well as a range of independent MPs and senators. This demonstrates that it is a proposal that can bring people together across the political spectrum.

If the proposal is not passed, our current constitutional arrangements will remain in place, limiting the ability of Parliament to respond to emerging issues and challenges. We cannot afford to be complacent in the face of these challenges. We need to take action to ensure that our democracy is fit for purpose in the 21st century.

You can support the proposal by voting 'yes' in the referendum and by encouraging others to do the same. This is an opportunity to make a positive change for our democracy and our future. Let's seize it.

QUESTIONS?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Voice is a proposed change to the Australian Constitution that would give Parliament the power to make laws relating to any matter, rather than just those areas specified in the Constitution.

The current system restricts the ability of Parliament to respond to emerging issues and challenges. By expanding the areas in which Parliament can legislate, we can ensure that our laws keep up with the needs of our society.

The powers of the states would not be diminished. They would continue to have authority over all areas not specified in the Constitution.

The top concerns include fears that the proposal would centralize power in Canberra, that it would undermine the role of the states, and that it would lead to more divisive political debates.

The proposal includes safeguards to prevent the centralization of power and protect the role of the states. It also includes measures to ensure that Parliament can work collaboratively and respectfully to address issues.

The proposal would allow Parliament to respond more effectively to emerging issues and challenges, such as climate change, cybersecurity, and social inequality. It would also promote greater accountability and transparency in our democratic system.

The proposal would require a referendum to change the Constitution. If the referendum passes, Parliament would be able to legislate on any matter that it deems necessary for the good of the nation.

If the Voice is not passed, on the world stage, Australia will be seen to once again have failed its First Nations peoples by not accepting the invitation, and will have failed to recognise the oldest living culture within the world as the First Peoples of our country.

You can support the proposal by voting ‘yes’ in the referendum and by encouraging others to do the same. You can also contact your local MP or senator to express your support for the proposal.
